3 Travel Movies Worth Watching

These three worth watching Netflix movies are a breathtaking glimpse into the world of travel, of course they will not substitute the whole real experience but they could help travelers to set up their adventure or let non travelers dream from their couches.


EXPEDITION HAPPINESS

It is the story of an adventurous couple from Germany and their lifetime travel from Alaska to Argentina on a converted school bus with their Bernese Mountain dog, Rudi. Felix is a filmmaker while his girlfriend Mogli is a musician. They where living in a third-floor apartment in Berlin when they bought Rudi, but because of his breed and the risk of hip dislocation, he was not allowed to take the stairs. Frustrated at being unable to find a suitable new apartment, Felix and Mogli realized that they could write songs and develop screenplays from anywhere, so they decided to take to the road. Having done their research, the couple, who are together three years, decided to buy and convert an old school bus for their trip, which they called Expedition Happiness.

WHY IT IS WORTH WATCHING

If you’ve ever dreamed to travel the world with you own van, than definitely you should give a chance to this movie. These two guys took it veeery seriously, in fact they transformed an old school bus in a cozy house on wheels that makes you want to leave immediately. The movie itself it’s very enjoyable: simple plot, beautiful guys, cute dog and great landscapes all tide up with nice amateur videos, that help the viewer empathizing with the actors. In the end what we learned is that things, sometimes, don’t go as planned and, perhaps, what you are looking for it is not so far away from home.


GIVEN

A documentary film directed by Jessi Bianchi. It shows the story of the Goodwins family and its adventure over the course of a year around the world: from Hawaii to Australia, from Nepal to Peru. The Goodwin (Aamion and Daize) are a surfing, super-couple that decided to take their six-years-old son and three-months-old daughter on a global surfing adventure that spanned six continents. The whole story is told from the perspective of the Goodwins’ son (Given).

Furthermore Given has already won the award for best cinematography at Florida Surf Film Festival and best film at the Sayulita Surf film festival.

WHY IT IS WORTH WATCHING

Either you like kids or not you will definitely fell in love with the little boy Given and his sweet voice. Given is not only one of the main actors of the movie, but also the voice-over that, believe or not, keeps you watching the movie from the beginning to the end.
Apart from the amazing landscapes captured literally from all over the world, what we really appreciate the most is that each one of us can find their own meaning behind this movie. In the end we are all chasing for our own big fish.


UNDER AN ARCTIC SKY

A 40 minutes documentary of six professional surfers set sail along the frozen shores of Iceland. Burkard and his surfing partners teamed up with Icelandic surfers and together they broke ground, or ice, to get to swells of unimaginable beauty and complexity. To surf in the arctic is not just about surfing in the cold, it’s also about surfing in the dark, which presents an additional level of risk and danger. Above all the crew captures stunning images and footage in all sorts of challenging conditions.

WHY IT IS WORTH WATCHING

Well…first of all because Iceland rocks, than because Surf also rocks! All jokes apart, this documentary shows stunning places of our beloved country: Iceland. Some footages are so great that you just want to book the first flight to Reykjavik, doesn’t matter if you’ll go there with or without your surfing board. Apart from the amazing images (Northern Lights included) we think this movie is a great inspiration and additionally encourage us to keep pushing the boundaries. If these guys were able to surf in Iceland in winter time, than we definitely can be brave enough to explore the world!
